日本を代表する現代アーティスト、村上隆による代表的キャラクター「Mr. DOB」の誕生28周年を記念して制作された限定スカルプチャー「Melting DOB」です。Mr. DOBは1993年に誕生して以降、作家自身のオルターエゴとしても解釈されてきた存在であり、ミッキーマウスやドラえもんのような大衆的キャラクターの記号性を参照しながら、可愛さ、狂気、消費社会、オタク文化をひとつのイメージへと圧縮した、村上のスーパーフラット的思想を象徴するモチーフといえます。本作では、片面に鋭い牙と大小異なる複数の多彩な眼を配し、もう片面には半目の眼と不敵な笑みを描くことで、Mr. DOBの二重人格的なキャラクター性を溶け出すようなフォルムで立体的に表現しています。耳から頭部にかけては赤と青の流動的なスワール柄に白いリング状のラインが重なり、ポップでありながらサイケデリックな視覚性を形成。キャストビニール製の本体にメタリックカラーの専用台座が付属し、アートギャラリー「Perrotin Hong Kong」にてアジア限定300体のみ展開された、市場に出る機会の限られるコレクタブルなアートピースです。

Created to commemorate the 28th anniversary of Takashi Murakami’s signature character Mr. DOB, “Melting DOB” is a limited sculpture that expands one of the artist’s most recognizable motifs into a three-dimensional form. Since its creation in 1993, Mr. DOB has often been interpreted as Murakami’s alter ego, referencing the symbolic language of mass-market characters such as Mickey Mouse and Doraemon while compressing cuteness, madness, consumer culture, and otaku visual language into a single image. In this work, one side features sharp teeth and multiple polychromatic eyes of varying scale, while the reverse presents half-lidded eyes and a roguish grin, expressing the dual personality of Mr. DOB through a fluid, melting form. The ears and head are covered with red and blue swirling graphics overlaid by white ring-like lines, creating a visual tension that is both pop and psychedelic. Crafted from cast vinyl and accompanied by a metallic-finished display base, this Asia-exclusive edition was released through Perrotin Hong Kong in a limited run of 300 pieces, making it a highly collectible Murakami art object rarely seen on the secondary market.
