First thing I noticed for the smell: it is not the fresh-cut basil leaves smell that the picture on the bottle triggers in my mind, it is more like dried basil, herbal. A nuanced smell reminiscent of basil but departing from it, with some bitter undertones. The description of a sweet smell doesn�t look accurate to me, but that�s subjective, based on my perception of the balance of the tones. This is a large bottle for the price. It comes with a nice, long glass dropper and is packed in a corrugated cardboard box that holds the dropper apart from the bottle. I have a very strong sense of smell and I thought that the scent was very light, though pleasant. I had expected it to be stronger, like most essential oils, but I have not had basil essential oil before, so I don't know if this is typical for this particular variety. This Basil essential oil smells just like fresh basil. The fragrance is fresh and not overpowering. I like to mix it with lavender in my bathroom diffuser. The bathroom smells fresh and clean. I will also, occasionally, mix a couple of drops of basil essential oil, lemon juice and baking soda to make a paste. I use this paste to clean the kitchen sink. It works to put the shine back into the stainless steel and it helps to freshen the garbage disposal when I rinse.
