Shankha — Handwoven Jamdani Dress

Woven in pure white Jamdani cotton, this dress scatters small red diamond butti motifs across its entire body — placed by hand on the loom, one thread at a time, in the Jamdani tradition that UNESCO has recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. At the hem, the weaving deepens into a wide border of bold geometric red motifs — diamond forms, temple arches, intricate fills — the full vocabulary of the loom in one ceremonial band.

The silhouette is relaxed and feminine: a V-neckline, three-quarter sleeves, and a free A-line that falls below the knee. White and red — the most Bengali of all colour combinations — on a dress that moves as easily as any other but carries the weight of a tradition.
