Frill Lettuce have a mild flavor and are very pliable, despite the crunchy stem. Their uneven ruffled surfaces add layers of texture to salads. Because the leaves are so large, it's best to tear them up into bite-size pieces.

The flavor is quite neutral, mild and slightly bitter, so it’s best to mix it with other types of lettuce or vegetables that are higher in flavor.

Nutritional Value

Frill lettuce contains mainly water (95%) this is an advantage in that it provides hydration and is a low energy food. It is a good source of folate and vitamin C.

How to Use

This lettuce is at its best raw, as a green salad and as decoration. In salads it adds a nice bit of bite and is a fresh element.
Make a wrap or a classic BLT sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato (avocado and chicken can be included too).

How to Store

Refrigerate in plastic bags or store in the crisper. Avoid squashing the lettuce. Alternatively, if the lettuce roots are still attached, stand the lettuce in a jar with the roots in water, and do not refrigerate.
