From the heart of West Bengal in India comes a fascinating tribal craft that is over 5,000 years old. Dhokra art involves a lost wax casting technique to fashion primitively alluring metal figurines. The legendary dancing girl of Mohenjo Daro is one of its earliest surviving examples. With several different techniques being used from region to region to create these objets d’art, a single piece could take up to a month or two to be finished. Moreover, since the clay moulds used are broken to reveal the metal artefact, no two Dhokra art pieces can ever be exactly alike!
