Lord Rama is one of the most popular deities in Hinduism. Considered as purushottama or βthe supreme beingβ, he is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. This intricately detailed oleograph depicts the coronation ceremony of Lord Rama in Ayodhya, which took place after he defeated Ravana in Lanka. The artwork features Sita, Hanuman and Saptarishis, amongst others.
The oleograph has been made at the Ravi Varma press. It is by renowned artist M.V. Dhurandhar and carries his signature. Dating back to the early 20th century, the oleograph is embellished with cloth, gold zari thread and sequins, making it a very special piece that is a collector's item.
