This is a charming Thanjavur reverse glass painting of a courting couple. This kind of non-religious subject, the ideal couple, is more rare to come across. Rather than the more usual western dress, the young man wears a green, brown, and orange mundu and melmundu and is holding the young ladyβs hand. The woman wears a green and brown sari, and both have their arms around each other. Both man and woman are wearing large necklaces and delicate rose garlands. The lovely pale grey background with white Hamsa capitals, gives a lightness to the piece.
