St. Rita is an Italian saint who had a very turbulent life, but who never lost her faith in God. Even though her husband was violent, his family embroiled in a feud, and her sons died in their youth, Rita always put her trust in the Lord and desired to serve him with her life. After her husband and children died she was instrumental in bringing peace to the two feuding families. She was even able to enter the convent - a life-long dream. For these reasons St. Rita is called upon as a patron for those with causes that seem hopeless. Her life may have been full of thorns, yet her faith was alive and flourishing like a rose. I know that through your intercession Our Lord often grants favors that seem impossible to human foresight, skill and efforts. I humbly ask that you bring my cause to the throne of God [mention personal request]. Have pity on my adversity, comfort me in my affliction, and purify my intention. Help me to unite my will with the will of God through the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ, and in particular through his patient wearing of the crown of thorns, which you daily contemplated with tender devotion.
