Kamli Si Hasi had a laugh that everyone in the village recognised. It echoed through games played in dusty courtyards, drifted from rooftops where papads dried in the sun, and lingered near the handpump where neighbours gathered for their daily chats.
She wore blue like the monsoon skies above her village and yellow like the mustard fields swaying nearby. The Bandhani dots on her saree held little moments of happiness, a shared joke, a stolen guava, the excitement of the first rain. The soft lace along the borders moved gently with every step, almost as if it carried her laughter with it. Kamli found joy in the simplest things. And perhaps that's why everyone smiled a little wider when she was around.
