Thali with Various Gods

Made using repousse and engraving techniques, this intricate and rare octagonal brass platter or ritual thali from Gujarat depicts several Hindu deities and mythological figures - Shiva, Rama, Sita, Surya (Sun God), Hanuman, apsaras (celestial nymphs), Nandi (the vahana or vehicle of Shiva), a lion and deer. The name of a previous owner is engraved on the back. This platter would have been used in puja or worship rituals.
