This Burmese black and cream lacquerware tray features a delicately engraved yet elaborate flower design, with a leafed stem coming down from the central circle. Engraved in the central medallion of the flower is a green displaying peacock (u-daung) design, which in Burma is a symbol of the sun. Under this is engraved Burmese script - the master craftsman’s name ‘Ko Phyo’ and the place it was made ‘Pat Nan Yat’. Around this are fine concentric circles and then beautiful feather like petals. The fine lines are then repeated at the edge, giving cohesion to the design.
