Born in 1965 in Maharashtra, Umakant Kanade completed a G.D. in art from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune in 1990. Depicting various elements from nature in their most basic and bare form, Umakant seeks to inspire people to see the magic in the little things in life, through his artworks.
Working primarily in ink on canvas, Umakant meticulously brings out the texture of the rocks, birds or water in his compositions through minute strokes. The artist tries to explain a concept through his intricately detailed works. Observing tones and colours and then converting them into black and white is a challenging, but Umakant excels in doing so, while also adding vibrant colours to a few elements in his artworks, thereby enhancing their allure.
Umakant Kanade has participated in several group exhibitions and also held several solo exhibitions in India as well as abroad, including those at the Art 2 Day Gallery and J Studio Art Gallery in Pune; Shree Rang Art Gallery and Delhi Art Gallery in New Delhi; Samsara Art Gallery in Mumbai; Crimson Art Gallery in Bangalore; and Creative Art Gallery in Dubai.
