Every morning, she eagerly waited for the flower seller to arrive on his rickety old bicycle. His bags were filled to the brim with beautiful red roses, marigolds of a startling orange, fragrant strings of jasmine and various other blossoms whose names she didnt know. What captivated her, however, was the large bunch of fresh lotuses hed wrap up in a sheet of newsprint and set aside from all the other varieties. These lotuses were special, for they had travelled a long way to make it to the flower market at daybreak. Shed set aside a few coins from her allowance to buy one flower each morning. Shed carefully place it in a bowl of water and set the simple arrangement on her study table. It was a simple ritual, but worth more than the greatest extravagances in terms of how much peace it brought her.
