Ambika means 'dear mother'. It is one of the many names of Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. The four armed goddess is portrayed here seated on a throne under an umbrella or 'chhatri' surrounded by several female attendants. Two of the women are seated at Ambika's feet playing musical instruments.
