Zeegezicht met figuren bij een schip op de kust

Ludolf Bakhuysen was famous in his own day for his renderings of dramatic storms; however, here he chose to paint a tranquil scene. On the beach is a kaag, a type of boat used to load, provision and unload large seagoing sailing vessels, such as the merchant ship in the background.
