This artwork is part of the Sixty@60 series of artworks by Laxman Aelay. The series, marking the year in which Laxman Aelay turned 60, comprises of sixty lyrical, dreamlike fragments rendered in ink, pigment and textured lines, that inevitably translate absence into substance, and nothing into everything, in a metaphysical sense. Each work is a pause, a small pocket of time where memory, dream, and myth converge in unexpected ways. There are poetic feelings such as a sudden flash of a bird, a face that flickers between joy and solitude, a landscape dissolving into abstraction. Working on such an intimate scale changes the artist’s rhythm. It invites closeness, making every mark intimate, deliberate, and personal. Some panels hold a single figure or animal, while others weave intricate worlds of foliage, water, and sky. They are fragments of stories that were never fully told, images that hover like verses of a poem, waiting to be seen, heard, and felt.
