This is an intricate and elaborately detailed old Mysore School painting depicting ‘Ram Durbar’, or the coronation of Rama after his defeat of Ravana. Rama’s wife, Sita, is seated next to him. His brother Lakshman is standing in attendance with folded hands, while Hanuman, the monkey-god, is touching Rama’s feet. At the bottom centre, Sugriva, the king of Vanaras (who are featured on the left) is making an offering of jewellery to Rama. Amongst the Vanaras is the bear-like figure of Jambavantha, a great warrior and strategist. On the right are Ravana’s brother and his followers, who switched to Rama's side during the war. On the top left are priests and saints who have come to bless Rama.
There is a red sticker on the bottom right indicative of the framer - A.I. Narayan, from Srirampet, Mysore.
