This is an exquisitely detailed old Mysore School painting depicting Ram Panchayatan. βPanchβ means five and refers to Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his three brothers - Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughan, all of whom are featured here in the painting, and were the main characters in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Also seen sitting next to Rama's feet is Hanuman, the divine companion of Rama who played a very important role in Ramayana.
