Exquisitely coloured with deep, rich colours, this is an old Bhuta figure that has been restored and decorated by Kinnala artists, using the 'Lajwara' process.
Bhutas were used for worship of supernatural beings or divinised ancestral spirits in the coastal area of Karnataka and Kerala. There are around 350 Bhutas or βspiritsβ which are broadly divided into heroes of the past who met untimely ends, animals, the elements, and some whose origins are not known.
This beautiful idol has the signature glossy finish that Kinnala art is known for. The lady is standing on a base, which is placed on a detachable iron stand.
