Silver Naqqashi Matka (Pot)

This silver pot has been decorated with exquisite naqqashi work around the neck. Naqqashi, or repoussé, is the art of metal engraving, in which delicate designs are etched and carved on the surface of metal objects, using hammers, chisels and other sharp tools. A traditional art-form, Naqqashi was once a speciality of artisans in Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, but over time, the art form also spread to other parts of the country such as Rajasthan.
