This repousse and lost-wax cast brass horseβs head is from Karnataka. The horse is wearing a harness around its head that has been beautifully engraved with floral designs. On its forehead is a headdress and the sculpture is also decorated with three neck ornaments. The horseβs mouth is open, and it has a wonderfully gentle expression. This piece would have been part of a vahana (celestial mount) and could have been part of Shaivite or Vashnavite worship, as both deities have the horse as a vahana. It has a teak stand especially made to display the piece.
The piece measures 13.5 x 8.5 x 14 inches without the base and 14.5 x 9.5 x 15.5 inches with the base.
