Emperor Shah Jahan With Princes

This miniature painting depicts a scene of Emperor Shah Jahan spending time with his four princes. He is shown with a sword in his right hand and touching an object presented by one of his sons with his left hand. The artwork is a beautiful rendition of colours and details. The cherub angels carrying a crown in the background indicate western influences.

The process of painting on old paper as in this particular work, is a complicated one, where the page, taken from an old book, is first cleaned and then painted upon.
