This artwork is part of a series by Ashu Gupta titled “Dialogues”, that depict a range of emotions, ideas, inner thoughts, and feelings. The contemporary artist chooses different subjects, delving into their consciousness and bringing to life their internal dialogues. Showcasing breathtaking detailing in her work, Ashu uses the intricacy of her chosen techniques to make a poignant statement about the complexity of human thought, dreams and desires that are often unspoken.
Devoid of Ashu’s signature patterns, “Emotions” is a busy artwork, characterised entirely by language. A silhouetted figure floats within a web of red and blue text that references the range of emotions that weave through the human psyche. Through colour, Ashu qualifies them as pleasant or uncomfortable; but she allows them to weave around her protagonist with equal weightage. Over the course of creating the piece, Ashu would write down emotions she happened to be feeling at that time, allowing the work to become a representation of her mind in real time.
