At the time of birth, all humans are pure, untouched by society or the external world. As we grow up, our thoughts are contaminated by external influence, and confusion or chaos sets in. As life moves on and we become more mature with life experiences, some clarity is achieved, and we aren't as easily influenced by the outside. And towards the end of our lives, when we've seen it all and carry our experiences with us as death looms large, we begin to go back to purity, realizing what truly matters. Such is the cycle of life.
This artwork is part of the Maati series by Ashu Gupta, where she depicts human emotions while highlighting the humble βmatkiβ (earthen pots made of maati or mud), as the hero. Humans and the matki, both eventually return to Mother Earth at the end of their lives. Drawing parallels between βusβ and the matki, the artist has portrayed different facets of human life in this series of artworks.
