Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) was a French sculptor in the academic style. He was born in Dijon, and first exhibited in the 1848 Salon. He would later receive a medal of honor from the Salon in 1897. Moreau was made mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and in 1912, a street was named in his honour. His father was the sculptor Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau, and his siblings were renowned sculptors too.
This exquisite bronze sculpture by Mathurin Moreau is gilded and carries his signature on the base.
