Extremely rare oleograph of 'Shankar' by Raja Ravi Varma from the early 1900s. It is a portrayal of the Hindu deity Shiva in his meditative form. Shankar or Shiva sits in a yogic posture, with snowcapped mountains in the distance. One hand is petting a young wild deer, while the other holds his emblem the trishul (trident). At his feet sit a disciple and his vahana Nandi. This is not a subject readily found in Ravi Varmaβs oleograph series.Β
