Jehanzaib One-OF-A-Kind-Afghan RUG

A Herat hand-knotted carpet of warm ivory ground arranged in a bold all-over diamond lattice — each lozenge carrying a stylised spread-wing eagle or figurative animal — the heraldic figurative tradition of Afghan tribal weaving at its most visually immediate.
The composition covers the entire ivory field in a grid of large serrated-edge diamond lozenges, the diamonds alternating in ground colour between dusty salmon-rose, deep burgundy, and warm amber-olive. Within each lozenge, a figurative element: spread-wing eagles rendered with the flat, frontal authority of ancient Central Asian iconography — bilateral, heraldic, wings extended at right angles to the body; horses in motion; camels in processional stillness; peacocks; deer. Between the diamonds, the ivory field carries further small figurative devices — birds, trees, smaller animals — so that the surface is densely inhabited without losing the luminosity of its ground. The spread-wing eagle is the dominant and repeating form, a motif whose roots in Central Asian textile tradition predate Islamic influence by centuries and that has moved across the entire breadth of the Afghan weaving world without losing its essential character.
The border — deep navy with a flowing geometric-floral vine in coral and red — provides formal containment for a field that would otherwise fill a room entirely on its own. Hand-knotted in wool.
