This artwork is part of The Eye Series, which celebrates and brings to life people, events, memories or objects, that we otherwise assign little importance to.
The artwork takes us on a journey back to our childhood, when the simplest things brought the greatest joy. For anyone who grew up in India between the 1960's to 1990's, there are so many stories and memories associated with the objects depicted in this artwork. From soft drinks like Gold Spot and Citra, to Phantom sweet cigarette candy, from the compass we used in Math class at school to the diamond shaped 5 paisa coin, from the iconic Champak or Chacha Chaudhury comic characters to the stately Ambassador car - the artwork evokes memories of more than 50 such memorable objects and things from yesteryears. Our eyes have retained visuals of all these different childhood associations, and the same is depicted through the eyeball in the centre of the artwork. Putting a big smile on the face, this delightful artwork is a throwback to all those happy memories, that can still bring the child alive in us.
