This artwork is part of a series by Ashu Gupta titled “Dialogues”, that depict a range of emotions, ideas, inner thoughts, and feelings. The contemporary artist chooses different subjects, delving into their consciousness and bringing to life their internal dialogues. Showcasing breathtaking detailing in her work, Ashu uses the intricacy of her chosen techniques to make a poignant statement about the complexity of human thought, dreams and desires that are often unspoken.
“Thread of Memories” is a reflection of Ashu’s own childhood. Ashu accentuates the pierced paper with strands of coloured thread, creating a vivid three-dimensional texture. Ashu has used paper piercings to create the thought cloud; a feat that is especially remarkable considering the lettering had to be done in reverse. The text includes pop culture references from the early 90s, and the thought cloud takes the form of an infinity symbol to represent how childhood memories are eternally relevant. The work is evocative of Ashu’s evolving style and experimentation with new materials.
