The compartmentalised garden carpet is one of the oldest ideas in weaving β a way of mapping paradise into a grid that the hand can travel across slowly, panel by panel. This Chobrang from Herat works in that tradition without nostalgia: an ivory ground divided into distinct sections, each holding its own moment β a crimson floral spray, a pair of blue medallions on navy, a central panel of sage-green botanical forms reaching upward.
The outermost border is a deep, complex green, layered with scrollwork and repeat motifs that hold the whole composition in. Wool on cotton, hand-knotted by Turkmen craftspeople for whom this format has been second nature for generations.
