This print features a  Latin poem detailing the life and travels of Amerigo Vespucci, the explorer credited with naming the Americas. The poem mentions  Vespucci’s sailing experience under Columbus and his own explorations that led him to believe he had reached a new continent, not just the Indies. The veracity of his claims were eventually accepted, and the lands he explored came to be known as America.
