Portrait of Francis Drake Art Print

This print features a Latin inscription describing Francis Drake, a renowned English explorer and privateer. The text titles him  “Nobilissimus et Peritissimus” (Most Noble and Highly Skilled) and  “Eques” (Knight).  It details Drake’s accomplishments in  “Angliae” (England), “Asia” (Asia), and “Bellicae Terrae” (the martial land), likely referring to his privateering exploits against Spanish holdings. The inscription also mentions his expertise in  “Navticae Rei” (seamanship) and  “Fortuna Navis” (fortune/luck of the ship), alluding to his successful voyages.
