This is a reverse glass painting from southern India.
Krishna is depicted here as Venugopala. Throughout the centuries, Venugopala has been shown as an alluring adolescent, a handsome young man, or as in this example, a chubby child. He stands playing the flute beneath a flowering kadamba tree. His feet are in padasvastika, and his hair is tied in the characteristic topknot, embellished with jewellery. A cow rubs itself against Krishnaβs legs and licks the sole of his left foot, while two diminutive cows are shown on either side of him.
