This special form of Lord Ganesha is called Aadyanta Prabhu, where one half of the deity is Ganesha and the other half is Hanuman. Considered the remover of obstacles, Hindus consider it auspicious to pray to Ganesha at the beginning of anything new. Hence 'aadi' or first. Hanuman, considered an avatar of Lord Shiva, is believed to remain even after creation is destroyed. Hence 'anta' or end. The combination of 'aadi' and 'anta' makes this deity 'Aadyanta Prabhu'. The sculpture, made using the lost wax technique, has Ganesha's trunk and body, and in the left hand, the deity is seen holding Hanuman's mace.
