This is an old and rare monochrome Mysore School painting of ‘Lakshmi Narasimha’. Narasimha is the fierce avatar of Lord Vishnu, known as the great protector. He was incarnated as part lion and part man to destroy evil and end religious persecution, particularly by Hiranyakashipu - who had been persecuting devotees of Vishnu, including his own son Prahlada. On Narasimha’s lap is his consort, the goddess Lakshmi. The boy standing beside him to the left is his devotee, Sri Prahlada.
