Hamsa Thali - 06

Elegant brass repousse and engraved thali from South India. In the central medallion is an engraved hamsa surrounded with rings of plain and palmette ornament. The outer border is fluted.
Hamsa is a mythical bird revered by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. It is seen as a symbol of purity, detachment and divine knowledge. Hamsa symbolizes the highest spiritual accomplishment as it swims in water, walks on earth and flies in the sky. This platter would have been used in worship rituals.
The diameter of the thali is 15.5 inches. It is mounted on a stand and the total height is 28 inches while depth is 4.5 inches.
