This is a Deccan brass, repoussΓ© and engraved platter or thali from North Karnataka. In the central medallion is a two headed engraved hamsa, surround by floral designs that mirror the feathers of its tail. A two-headed Hamsa symbolises the union of duality, representing the merging of opposing forces like the masculine and feminine, consciousness and the subconscious, or the individual soul with the universal consciousness. Surrounding the central medallion are concentric bands of detailed floral designs interspersed with plain bands. These culminate in a pierced petal design on the outer edge. This platter would have been used in puja/worship rituals. The platter has a handmade brass holder so that it can be hung on the wall.
